“We don’t just teach hospitality. We teach women to own their future.”
Pro-EMA was born from a simple but radical belief: that every girl in Timor-Leste deserves a real shot at economic independence. Since 2010, we’ve been turning that belief into action — one student, one skill, one transformed life at a time.
In 2010, a small group of educators and development workers gathered in Dili with a conviction: that vocational education, done right, could be the most powerful form of women’s empowerment in post-independence Timor-Leste.
Pro-EMA started with 12 students, a borrowed kitchen, and an unwavering belief in the potential of young Timorese women. Today, it has grown into a network of programs, social enterprises, and alumni who are reshaping their country’s economy from the ground up.
Every step of that journey was led by the women themselves — as students, graduates, instructors, and entrepreneurs.

We believe that quality, practical education is the most powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty and creating lasting change.
Every program, every decision, every partnership starts with one question: does this empower the women and girls we serve?
We honor the culture, identity, and aspirations of Timorese women. Our role is to support — never to impose.
We measure success not in reports, but in jobs secured, businesses launched, and families lifted.
Our students don't just transform their own lives — they become catalysts for change in their families and communities.
We plant seeds that grow for generations. Our investment in today's students is Timor-Leste's future prosperity.
